A comforting creamy pasta dish with fresh basil and rich tomatoes, perfect for weeknight dinners.

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces pasta (spaghetti, penne, or fusilli)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14 ounces) canned diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Red pepper flakes, optional

Instructions

  1. Cook pasta in salted boiling water according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water, then drain and set aside.
  2. Sauté garlic in olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat for about 1 minute, until fragrant.
  3. Add canned diced tomatoes (with juices) to the skillet and simmer for about 5 minutes.
  4. Make the sauce creamy by lowering the heat and stirring in heavy cream. Simmer for an additional 2–3 minutes until slightly thickened.
  5. Mix in the cooked pasta, tossing to coat in the creamy tomato sauce, adding reserved pasta water if needed.
  6. Stir in chopped basil, grated Parmesan, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  7. Serve hot, optionally garnishing with more Parmesan and red pepper flakes.

Notes

Use fresh basil for the best flavor. Adjust the creaminess by substituting with half-and-half if desired.
