A classic macaroni and cheese recipe that is easy to prepare and delivers on flavor, perfect for family dinners or gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz elbow macaroni
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to the package instructions until al dente, about 7-8 minutes. Drain the pasta and set aside.
  2. In the same pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for about 1 minute until bubbly. Gradually whisk in the milk and heavy cream, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
  3. Continue to cook and whisk until the mixture is thickened, around 3-5 minutes. Stir in the garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Remove the pot from the heat and add the shredded cheddar cheese, stirring until completely melted and smooth.
  5. Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce, stirring to coat the pasta evenly. If the sauce is too thick, add a splash of milk to achieve your desired consistency.
  6. Transfer the macaroni and cheese to bowls and enjoy it while warm!

Notes

Use fresh cheese for better melting. Stir constantly to avoid clumping and adjust seasoning before combining with pasta.
